Keeping Your Bathroom Clean

Mar 12, 2021

Bathrooms tend to be one of the hardest spaces to keep clean and sanitized. Even though you may keep this area tidy, a deeper scrub should be done to sanitize and guard against germs.

Do a semi-regular deep clean

A quick clean is not always enough to rid your bathroom of hidden bacteria, so getting into the routine of an occasional deep clean is a good idea.

Do a Basic Cleaning First

Before you can do a deep clean to sanitize, your bathroom should have a basic cleaning to remove dirt & debris, so it is ready for disinfecting. Using a bucket of warm, soapy water is sufficient for scrubbing sinks, toilets, bathtubs, and showers. Remember to clean doorknobs, faucets and countertops as well.

Wash Bathroom Linens and Shower Liners

Laundering towels frequently prevents germs, especially if you shower daily. Using the sanitize cycle or setting your washer to the hottest setting is best for eliminating all germs. Make sure to also wash your shower curtain & liner. This is often overlooked and can accumulate mold, mildew and soap scum.

Time to Disinfect

There are many good sanitizing products on the market, but you can also easily make your own disinfectant at home using a simple solution of one quart of water with a teaspoon of bleach in a spray bottle. Don’t forget to wear household gloves.

- Spray all surfaces, including the sink, bathtub, toilet, doorknobs, towel racks and all other surfaces and allow to air dry by ventilating the room

-Apply toilet cleaner inside the bowl and let it sit for 10 minutes

-Sanitize your sink's pipes using a baking soda & white vinegar solution down the drain, then pour near-boiling water down the drain to flush it out

-Disinfect showerheads by mixing a third of a cup baking soda with one cup of white vinegar in a bag and then wrap it around the showerhead with a rubber band, keeping in place overnight to kill any lurking bacteria

-Finish up by mopping the floor with your disinfectant solution and letting it air-dry completely

-Reward yourself with a nice cold drink of your favorite summertime flavor, or wintertime warmth and rest your tired feet!
